Dr Bronner’s Makes its UK TV Debut!

Dr Bronner’s Makes its UK TV Debut!

The Rise & Rise of Dr Bronner’s To A Global Household Name

STOP PRESS: Dr Bronner’s Soap featured on ITV’s Big Box Little Box this month, a new six part primetime factual entertainment format “that takes the modern phenomenon of customer reviews to the next level.” Featuring ordinary families from across the UK, the program captures on camera their reaction as they test a wide range of everyday products. Entertaining, funny and informative, the households give a real life take on the latest items being marketed in the UK.

The households put the Lavender Dr Bronner’s Magic Liquid Soap to the test, and displayed a whole array of uses on the show, including –

  • household cleaning
  • beard wash
  • body wash
  • hand wash
  • washing up
  • aromatherapy
  • pet washing

One lady tester commented “ooh it smells good”, and whilst a young man living in a shared house didn’t get on with cleaning his teeth with the Lavender flavour “it tastes sort of like sambuca“, his flatmate declared “it cleaned the toilet really well”. As for their other flatmate who commented “you shouldn’t be able to put something that you clean the toilet with in your mouth“, we reply “WHY NOT“?! We would like to recommend to the first chap that the Peppermint flavour is far superior for brushing your teeth, just ask Eminem!

Natural & Organic Products Europe 2015

Natural & Organic Products Europe 2015

Last week, on 20 April 2015, we changed our office in Highgate for the futuristic looking exhibition centre ExCeL to visit Natural & Organic Products Europe. Excited to walk the busy aisles of the show and planning to not miss out one single stand, we entered the show to start our expedition for the latest trends on the natural and organic market. Ready, set, go!

A ‘company outing’ to our taste – in the truest sense of the word

Equipped with the empty canvas bags we were given by the lovely hostesses at the entrance of the show, we were looking forward to getting to know and try new products from all around the world. Soon we found ourselves sniffing beautiful soaps, creams, and lotions, ‘aha’-ing over menstrual cups, and feasting on organic fruit and raw chocolate bars, cool coconut water, frozen smoothies, and freshly brewed teas.

One of the biggest trends we spotted in both the beauty and foods sections, was definitely the omnipresence of coconut. Whether it was praised for its many nourishing characteristics in personal care products or added to foods for its taste and dietary superpowers, coconut seems to deliver many answers about beauty and lifestyle questions this year.

After having got a good overview of the exhibiting brands and their products, our next destination was the big stand (or should I say pavilion?) of Kinetic, which very much reminded us of a garden arcade with its grass-green floor, see-through product shelves and airy roofing. It was great to see many of the brands we work with daily and write about in their natural habitat, and to experience how well-received they were by the other visitors.

All in all we enjoyed our day at ExCeL and talking to many founders and exhibitors about their novelties. Apart from this, we like that the show was very well organised and that the different brands’ stands were nicely done up. As most of us walked the long aisles of Natural & Organic Products Europe for the first time, to echo the words of Hello! Magazine’s Cath Tyldesley, all we can say is: “How have I not been before?! It’s like my mecca! Gwyneth Paltrow would have a field day!”.

Intern-al Affairs by Alex : Day 2

Intern-al Affairs by Alex : Day 2

Next week began with a quick visit to Selfridges’ Beauty department to set up some visual merchandising for Antipodes. Rebecca and I dressed the trestle tables ready for the Antipodes mini facials. Meanwhile I also tried out some of the products, which unsurprisingly smelled absolutely gorgeous (although as I would find out later that afternoon, this is not how you should choose your cosmetics!) The amazing texture of the Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream made it a particular favourite.

Later on, it was back to Highgate to work on some blog posts and Pinterest hair boards for JASON’s #LoveYourLocks campaign before meeting Kris D’Amour in the afternoon.

LoveYourLocks Social Media Campaign1

We were really excited to meet Kris and his business partner, who had travelled all the way from Leeds to discuss PR for his luxury skincare brand, Kris D’Amour, and to attend the London Beauty Bloggers Meetup that evening.

Kris is a medical scientist with several years’ experience conducting cancer research. This, combined with trying to find solutions for his own enduring problems with eczema and acne inspired him to develop a range of products to treat skin naturally with bio-scientifically proven extracts. Kris’s passion for using only the highest quality active ingredients really came across. He highlighted the advantages of argan and lavender over shea butter and olive oils, and the fact that the latter may cause skin problems despite the fact that both are ‘natural’. Indeed, his own formulas are super-saturated with active ingredients rather than using cheaper or ‘filler’ alternatives found in many skincare products.

Considering the quality and growing size of the Kris D’Amour Collection, I was in awe of the fact that at present the company is run almost entirely from Kris’ Leeds home; incorporating all processes from production to packaging design and assembly. However Kris acknowledged that whilst he enjoys nothing more than developing new products, as the business grows Kris D’Amour needs to invest in marketing and devise a strategy to do these luxury products justice/let the brand obtain the exposure it deserves.

Afterwards we headed onto the Tube, arms laden with baskets overflowing with beauty goodies, to the Beauty Bloggers Meetup at the Plum and Spilt Milk Bar, in the Great Northern Hotel, Kings Cross. We were joined by nine other London bloggers, who were also kind enough to share some pearls of wisdom to a newcomer about starting out on the blogging scene.  Kris gave a dynamic presentation of his products and alongside a more condensed summary of the brand’s philosophy and ideals. Finally, it was time for questions and to sample the products! I tested out the Balancing Face Moisturiser (with Juniper Berry, Petitgrain, Patchouli and Lavender oils) and the 100% Natural Face Cleanser – one of Kris’ favourite innovations. The moisturiser was light and rapidly absorbed, without leaving a hint of greasiness on my skin. Having combination skin, the overly greasy and sticky formula of many moisturisers seems to exacerbate skin problems – so this product was a revelation!  Meanwhile, I loved the formula of the Natural Face Cleanser. The product has a luxurious mousse-like consistency which when combined with water forms a cleanser. This formula also has the plus of being super-economical, as a tiny amount of mousse goes a long way.

Chatting with and sharing ideas with other Beauty Bloggers was a highlight of the evening though, and I’m looking forward to hopefully attending another event soon!
